Team Arrow SAE Shines at SAE Aero Design 2025

Team Arrow SAE from Nirma University Soars at SAE Aero Design West 2025, USA

A proud moment for Nirma University, together with Indian engineering excellence, arrived when Team Arrow SAE achieved a 5th place ranking in Mission Score at SAE Aero Design West 2025 among top aerospace innovation competitors worldwide.

The prestigious SAE Aero Design West 2025 competition took place at historic Apollo XI RC Field in Los Angeles, where 70 elite teams participated from the USA, Canada, Poland, Mexico, China, Brazil, and India. The prestigious competition featured teams from UC Berkeley, Georgia Tech, the University of Toronto, Warsaw University of Technology, and Indian colleges like VIT, NIT, and Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi College of Engineering, which Team Arrow successfully outperformed in this competitive aerospace innovation event.

Engineering Excellence in the Micro Class

Team Arrow demonstrated their engineering excellence in the Micro Class by creating a lightweight unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that achieved a 54-inch wingspan and successfully carried 2 kg of water while maintaining excellent efficiency. The aircraft achieved an impressive 50 N lift force while using only 450 Watts of power and achieved a short takeoff distance of under 10 feet.

The team successfully completed six consecutive flights under challenging wind conditions, which became the best achievement by an Indian team at the competition while demonstrating their engineering strength and aerodynamic abilities.

Innovation Meets Precision

The UAV designers applied advanced knowledge of aerodynamics and fluid dynamics in their design creation. The aircraft design, with its conventional fixed-wing structure and teardrop-inspired fuselage, was engineered to reduce drag while fighting the complex liquid-payload sloshing effects. The aircraft design produced a stable and highly efficient model, which received admiration from judges and fellow competitors.

Representing India on a Global Stage

The SAE Aero Design West competition served as more than a competition since it provided students with a worldwide chance to solve engineering problems through classroom education.
